Opening weekend brings a lot of excitement to Lake Louise. The lifts start turning, the mountain fills with people who have waited all summer for the season, and it is officially winter in the Rocky Mountains. Lake Louise Ski Resort is scheduled to open for the 2026/27 season on November 6, pending weather and snow conditions. Here is our checklist for ensuring you’re ready for the big day.
Start the season strong
Powder legs are not required. After months away from the snow, nobody expects a perfect first run, and opening weekend is not the time to prove anything. It is a chance to get back into the rhythm of the mountain.
Layer up
November in the Canadian Rockies can swing from bright and mild to sharp and windy within a single afternoon. Build your outfit in layers so you can adjust on the hill. Include a moisture-wicking base, an insulating mid layer, and a waterproof outer shell. Pack goggles for flat light and a neck gaiter for the chairlift. Plus, warm gloves and dry socks matter more than you think by midday.

Tune up
If your skis or board have been in storage since spring, get them waxed and checked before the weekend. Shops get busy as opening day approaches, so book early. Check that your boots, bindings, and helmet fit, too.
Time it well
Daily operating hours are generally 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., shorter than you might expect now that the dark skies creep in earlier. Arrive early enough to find time to park, pick up your pass, and be on the first lifts. Opening weekend draws a crowd, and an early start keeps the morning relaxed.
Warm up on easy runs
Spend your first few runs on gentle terrain. Early season coverage can be thin in places, and your legs will thank you for easing in. Stay on marked runs, watch for variable snow, and save the bigger terrain for later in the weekend or later in the season.
Après at Lake Louise Inn
After a day on the mountain, dinner at Lake Louise Inn is an easy call. Head to Timberwolf for comforting pizza and pasta selections, or settle in at Explorers Lounge for casual pub fare, a seat by the fire, and a pool table for some friendly competition.

Make it a getaway
Our spacious suites give you room to spread out your gear and rest up between ski days. Every room and suite is designed for comfort, so you can sink in and feel at home the moment you walk through the door. Book your stay before opening weekend fills up.
